About Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy was introduced in India in 1952 and in West Bengal in 1963. Today, physiotherapy is one of the most popular and sought-after healthcare services in Western countries. Although more than five decades have passed since its introduction in India, awareness of physiotherapy is steadily and surely increasing. Considering the vast population of the country and the limited number of physiotherapists graduating each year, the profession holds tremendous potential for growth and development in the years to come.

Scope of Practice / Job Prospects

Hospital Practice

Qualified physiotherapists can work in general hospitals, multi-specialty hospitals, rehabilitation centers, and community healthcare settings, particularly in the management of orthopedic and neurological conditions. They play a key role in educating people from all walks of life about back care, posture, and fitness exercises. Physiotherapists also provide specialized care to maternity patients through antenatal classes, postnatal exercises, and posture training.

Private Practice

Physiotherapists may establish their own private clinics and treat patients with a wide range of conditions such as musculoskeletal disorders, pain, stiffness, reduced joint mobility, paralysis, muscle weakness, cardiac rehabilitation needs, and sports injuries.

Corporate Sector and Industries

With globalization, there is a growing demand for physiotherapists in corporate sectors and industries that operate employee healthcare facilities. Physiotherapists conduct on-site workplace assessments, study ergonomic risks, and provide guidance to prevent work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

Teaching Profession

Graduates who pursue postgraduate qualifications may enter the teaching profession as faculty members in physiotherapy colleges, contributing to the education and training of future physiotherapists.

Fitness and Wellness

Fitness today is no longer a casual concept but a serious pursuit for many individuals. Increasing awareness has led people to prefer scientifically designed, customized fitness programs provided by qualified physiotherapists rather than non-professional training methods.

The physiotherapy courses conducted by the institution are recognized by various international credentialing agencies, enabling graduates to seek employment overseas.
